La Lonja
Valencia has a rich and interesting history, and the architecture in the City Centre reflects that. In the Plaça del Mercat, you can find a Baroque Church, the Gothic La Lonja, and the Modernist Mercado Central building, all standing within 50m of each other.
Don’t miss the Cathedral, with the Miguelete clock tower – if you have the energy, climb to the top for a stunning view of the Plaça de la Reina, then head around the side of the Cathedral to reach the Plaça de la Virgen, with the equally impressive Basilica de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados. There are some nice (but slightly overpriced) cafés around the square, where you can sip a Café con leche and watch the world go by.
The whole of the City Centre is dotted with interesting churches and buildings – don’t be afraid to just head off and explore!
In our Information Pack at the Villa, we have a suggested Walking Tour that takes in many of the sights in the Historic Centre of the City.
